Welcome back to my monthly blog post, my June Wrapped! June was a month of many beginnings and endings for me. A transition from carefully planned grade school to adulthood and the multitude of decisions that come alongside that. I couldn't have thought of a better way to usher it in than the longest days of the year, when golden hour only starts at 9 pm. Flowers blooming everywhere and green occupying the entirety of my vision make for my favourite parts of June. Maybe summer is so cherished in my mind because of its fleeting nature, but it truly is my happiest state. Here are some ways I've been making the most of it! Enjoy :)

  • Fun Water- With the summer heat, it is more important than ever to keep yourself hydrated. The easiest way to do this is to make drinking water an enjoyable experience. I love to use citrus fruit in my litre water bottle and try to drink two a day. You can get creative with what to flavour your water with, but I would recommend just using fruits, not added sugars! Keep your water as water :)

  • Eat Outside- In my opinion, eating outside just makes the experience feel more grounding and a bit more magical. It can be as involved as planning a picnic dinner or as simple as sitting on the front step to eat your morning eggs.

  • Notice the things Growing (or grow them yourself) - July is the month when the seedlings planted in spring are starting to give back to their growers. So notice and appreciate the flowers blooming, the strawberries heavy on the plant, and the lettuce now leafy and green. If you can eat from a garden (your own, the community garden, or through a farmers' market), I highly recommend it. It just tastes better :)

  • Welcome in the Summer Months- My favourite ways to do this are 1) make a vision board encompassing all you want your summer to look like (I'll have a tutorial on this up soon on Instagram or search back to last year's post!) or (better yet and) 2) make a summer bucket list. I have both these things up beside my mirror so I can look at them every morning.

  • Find/Build Community- It is so much easier to combat life's trials when you don't feel alone. So this month, I challenge you to either find your people or make an effort to see the ones who already support you. This can be your family, friends, people who share your hobbies, or just your neighbours. You cannot have a village without being a villager, so put yourself out there!

Thank you for reading these little pieces of advice, and I hope you try one! Having a little sticky note above my desk with ideas like this really helps me remember to incorporate them into my days.

June Favorites

  • My grad cap, diploma, corsage and dress scrap- Of course, these are favourites of mine as I just graduated and they hold very special memories.

  • Jewelry- The pearl earrings and necklace were a grad gift from my parents from Atolea jewelry. They are both water and tarnish-proof, which I love.

  • Iced Coffee- I love a cold iced coffee on my summer mornings, and my favourite way to make it is with chai mix from Costco, regular milk, and a dash of cream and cinnamon.

Now, a little about me. As of today, the Instagram account has grown to 422 followers, despite my inconsistency in posting. My weekly art class finished at the beginning of June, and my teacher held the annual student showcase. It's always so fun to see what everyone has created over the year, and I am so proud of the pieces I presented. The new piece I started is still sitting on my easel at home, as I have not had time to work on it. Lots of exciting things on the horizon and lots of beautiful paintings. I worked on watercolour, especially as gifts for my friends, with grad, which was very fun. Mostly florals, but I did a few other little projects as well. Other than that, June was pretty slow on the art side with everything else going on!

In my personal life, June was incredibly busy with work, exams, and grad! Lots to balance for sure. To celebrate the end of the year, we had a senior sunset, which was so fun to spend time with my friends and grad class. My friends and I spent lots of time hanging out and trying to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather and long days. My boyfriend broke his ankle halfway through the month, so that put a bit of a damper on the mood. But I think he still made the best of it, and I tried to help as much as I could. We went to brunch a few times, which was different for us and very nice. My family and I went camping for a weekend and enjoyed the time away on the water, and later that week, we celebrated my brother's 14th birthday. At the end of the month, after my three diplomas were completed, grad started in full force. We had a graduation rehearsal (for commencement) and mass the first day, and it was a good excuse to spend the day with my friends eating out and celebrating. The next day was commencement, where we received our diplomas and officially graduated. My family hosted a get-together the evening afterwards to celebrate with all my family and friends. The final day was prom, where my friends and I took a party bus to the banquet, then spent the night celebrating. The rest of that weekend was spent celebrating with my friends at various socials and parties. When that all died down, my family and I travelled to Westlock to kick off the summer with our family friends at their cabin on a lake. Campfires, boating, fishing, and outside dinners were the perfect way to end June.

Thank you for tuning in if you've made it this far! I will try to post one of these at the end of each month to keep everyone updated. Let me know if you have any other ideas for what I should write about in these blogs (my dms and email are open!)
